I truly enjoyed reading everyone's posts. You seem to have your priorities organized and you are thinking now what you plan to do later in life. The journey of life itself is an exciting adventure. .. be sure to appreciate every moment. . . the highs AND the lows. . . I would like to put the spotlight on Dustin Glover's post this week. . . he really embraced the question. . . and I think we can all say safely say that he will embark on an admirable journey one day. . . and ten years from now, you ALL will be successful and you will have special memories of where you are at this very moment. And as you continue to age, you will learn how important tradition can be in one's life. Traditions provide us comfort and familiarity so that no matter what we do in life, how we change, or where we go, those traditions always remain intact. . . they are our security blankets in life that remind us of our roots and origins in life.
As the Europeans traveled to this country in the 15th century, they immediately began creating traditions and some of those still exist today. . . within documents that we still honor, holidays we celebrate, and customs we practice. Think within your own community or even family. . . what traditions do you have in your life? These can be unique or common, everyday moments or events that only occur once a year. What traditions do you feel are necessary? If you do not feel you have significant traditions in your life now, what traditions do you plan to set in place for your own family one day? Provide us with detail . .. tell us stories. . .

One tradition that i have i share with my best friend Alexis Whitehead. Every year since we were in 7th grade we go on spring break together. 7th-9th grade we went to Disney and Unviersal with her family and last year we went on a cruise with our moms. Its always so much fun going to vacation with her because we are more like sisters then best friends. We have decided that we will always go on spring break together. My favorite memory is of us in Disney one year Alexis, Amanda,Preston, and I ate this huge dessert callled everything but the kitchen sink we ate and ate we were so full after we finished the huge desseret. I cant wait to find out where spring break this year will be.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorit traditions that my family has is our annual fourth of july get together. Ever since i can remember we have had a family get together on the fourth of july. evryone in the family come. I have family all over the country as far as Ohio so to have all my family under one roof is a pretty big deal. I can remember one year evryone agreed to spend one houndred dollars on fireworks. When you have over fifty people its sets of a pretty big boom. The fire works lasted evry bit one an hour that night. We always compete with the house below us to see who can last the longest and have bigger fireworks. We usually lose because the family that lives there has a lot of money. But on that night we won hands down. That tradition may not be necessary but it gives the whole family somthing to look forward to each year.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, we do celebrate all the traditions that most families hold dear such as Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. Other members of my family have get togethers on this day. My Gandma in South Carolina gets Thanksgiving, My Grandma in Virgina get Easter, and my Dad gets Christmas.

One of my favorite family traditions occur on Thanksgiving. Some of my family members in Maryland always come down for the week and we spend time together. On Thanksgiving, we have a family dinner at my grandmother's house. We all gather around the table and thank God for all that he has given us. We also do another prayer for the close relatives that has past away. It does bring some tear, but we continue spending time together.
ReplyDeleteWe also come together and celebrate other holidays such as Christmas,Easter, and the Fourth of July.

Traditons in my family include the regular holidays Christmas, Easter, Fourth of July, but we also have some of our own.Christmas is always at my mamaws and Easter dinner is at my house. Most of my family does not live in Tennessee anymore so it is mainly my grandparents and uncles. On the forth of July my family always shoot my grandaddy pistol because it is his birthday and we do it to celebrate because he is no longer with us.This is why I feel traditions have exsisted since the beginning of time and will always be so important to all cultures.

I have many traditions that come around on a yearly basis, but one stands out above the rest. For about three years now on every Fourth of July Chase, Eli and I spend about fifty dollars and three hours of our time to make a sparkler bomb. The first year we tried it did not meet our expectations of the examples we saw on youtube. It was more of a waterfall made of fire other than the explosion we were looking for. The next two attempts were very successful. In fact the second bomb was actually so big it shook the dust from the top of the ceiling and blew a trashcan into hundreds of tiny pieces. After our moms saw the destruction that we could do with our new tradition we are now supervised and had to make smaller versions from now on. We will continue the tradition the next Fourth of July for anyone who has the guts to come watch the show.

One of my family's traditions is to eat breakfast every sunday. My Father and Mother get up and fix biscuts and gravy, eggs, sauage , and bacon. This is the only time we all eat are meals togther. This time is special to me because we are all together. I love that this is the only time we are together.
